Win Studio Time!
Monnow Valley Residential Recording Studio in Rockfield, South Wales is running a ‘studio time raffle’ to raise money for a local boy, Dan Black, who was seriously injured in an accident in December 2009. At only 22, Dan was a promising young musician & a bass player in a band called Rothchild who themselves recorded at Monnow Valley and supported such bands as UFO, Thunder and The Answer.
Dan was also training to join the Army, ditching his car in a bid to get fit. Whilst cycling to work in Chepstow on 2nd December, Dan was knocked off his bike. His back was broken and he sustained serious head injuries, which triggered a massive stroke. Doctors subsequently induced Dan into a coma, which lasted 5 weeks, during which time his parents were told to expect him to be severely brain damaged. However, Dan’s a fighter and on New Year’s Eve 2009 he came round with his body badly broken, but his mind very much alert.
Dan is currently being cared for in Rookwood Hospital, a spinal injuries rehabilitation centre in Cardiff where he will stay for the next year. His family and friends have set up ‘Team Black’ with the aim to raise as much as possible to fund advanced medical treatment, ensure Dan can come home and give him the best possible quality of life into the future.
Michaela Black, Dan’s Mum explains “We have been through the most horrendous few months, not knowing whether Dan would survive his injuries. He is a wonderful, caring and intelligent boy who now has to come to terms with what’s ahead of him. As a parent, we can cope with his physical injuries the biggest hurdle is helping him through his depression and giving him a purpose in life”
